Souperbowls of Hope

Since the doors to the studio opened this year, our mission has been to create bowls for the Souperbowls of Hope charity fundraiser. Patrons pay twenty-five dollars and are able to choose a bowl that has been handmade and donated to the organization which funds the Youth Empowerment Society whose goal is to aid street youth in Victoria. After the bowls are purchased, celebrity chefs serve soup before the bidding on larger auction items begins. Helen Hughes has organized this initiative since 1997, and the potters at Brentwood have been involved in making the bowls ever since. The event will be held on Monday, November 3rd from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Laurel Pointe Inn, Victoria. The beginner potters in the studio made their bowls from textured slabs of clay that were then molded and glazed. The more advanced potters in the room threw their bowls on the wheel, and then proceeded to trim and glaze.
