A number of teams wrapped up very successful competitive seasons in November. Soccer Our Senior Boys Soccer team capped off a great season by defeating Shawnigan Lake School 2-0 in their final game of the year to capture the Mid-Island League crown. Volleyball In volleyball, our Junior A Girls showed tremendous growth over the course of the season and captured gold at the Mid-Island championship and performded very well at Islands finishing 5th. The Senior Girls captured Silver at the Island Championship and hosted the AA Provincial Volleyball Championships right here at Brentwood this past weekend. It was an exciting time on campus as the top 16 AA teams from across the province converged on the Woodward Sportsplex to do battle on our courts. The tournament opened on Thursday with our Senior Girls coming away with a 1 – 2 record from their first three matches. On Friday, at the crossover, the girls pushed their rivals from St. Thomas Moore before losing a fifth set heart breaker 14 -16. After winning out the rest of the way, the team achieved 9th place for the championship. It was a brilliant tournament for the school to host and we congratulate the winners from Pacific Academy from Surrey for their victory. Grade 9 Rugby In rugby, our Grade 9 boys finished a successful XVs campaign with a win over Mulgrave. The team improved tremendously throughout the year. Indeed, on the last weekend of rugby, the team participated in an ISA 7s tournament where they defeated Collingwood, SMUS and Shawnigan before losing to St George’s in the final. This was a terrific achievement for a group that was predominantly brand new to the game at the start of the term. Field Hockey Our Junior Girls Field Hockey team also wrapped up an impressive season. They battled valiantly in the Island Championship where they defeated SMUS 5-4 in penalty shots to come away with a bronze medal. Meanwhile, the Senior Girls won Island Silver and qualified for the provincial championship in Oliver, BC. The girls played some excellent field hockey at provincials winning 3 games, tying two and losing one and came away as the winner of the consolation bracket. It was a great season for a young Senior Girls team. Winter Season With December upon us, second term sport gets underway. We look forward to watching our basketball and hockey teams in competitive action in the months ahead.
