Comeback Kids Sink Shawnigan

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015 is a day that the Senior Girls Basketball team will never forget. The sea of red of black was going strong as our peers showed their support throughout the day. Our season series against our foes, Shawnigan Lake School, was tied 1-1 and the title for 1st place in the Mid-Island league was on the line. Everyone knew what was at stake and we were all ready to prove to our school and ourselves that we are able to emerge victorious against our closest rivals. 6:15 was the time of the tip off and both teams fed off the energy of the fans and came out with a bang. As the 1st half continued, Shawnigan’s sharp shooting and effective defense helped them earn a lead going into half, 30-15. Although our heads were held low, we were in no way done fighting. With an uphill battle ahead of us, we went straight to work and slowly cut the deficit to 7 by the end of the 3rd quarter. The deafening crowd motivated us to fight through our aching muscles and fatigue: giving up was not an option. As we continued to close the gap, we were able to capture our first lead since the 1st quarter in the final minutes of the 4th: the atmosphere within the gym was electric. The final buzzer was music to our ears as we officially earned the title of the comeback kids: the final score was 50-47 for the home team. We go into South Islands with top spot in the Mid-Island, which will hopefully give us an advantage going into the playoffs.
