Acacia Lodge
Despite the superstitious nature of the day, on Friday, February 13th, a handful of student volunteers travelled to Acacia Lodge for a special Valentine’s Day celebration. Acacia Ty Mawr, a special care home for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, is a unique place in which Brentwood students have the pleasure of volunteering. Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm and welcoming smiles from both residents and the staff. Little did they know, what we had with us would melt their hearts. Entering the home bearing heart-shaped sugar cookies covered in bright pink icing and Valentine’s cards smothered in stickers, we were blessed to partake in a life-changing afternoon. Countless smiles spread across the residents’ faces greeted us when we delivered our gifts. The incredible happiness over such small items made our time spent baking, icing, and decorating truly worth it. Enjoying stories over cookies and tea as well as sharing laughs while learning various dance moves filled our time at Acacia. As we departed the facility, we knew that we had truly made many people very happy. On behalf of everyone in SPARC, I would like to thank Mrs. Felix for keeping Brentwood students connected on these weekly trips to Acacia Lodge. Maddi A, Alex ’15
