Regatta Is Here!

Today marks the official flick of the oars of this aforementioned regatta and the waterfront campus of Brentwood College School has already transformed. Where it once was a happy hermitage of peaceful academia, the peaceful location has turned into a frantically busy hubbub. Rowers from across our humble Cowichan Valley and province will be attending; even groups of our American neighbours (not neighbors) wearing colourful (not colorful) unisuits will make the journey to Brentwood to brace the turbulent waves and unpredictable weather. Dozens upon dozens of races with more one thousand six hundred athletes competing will occur over the upcoming weekend, and no matter which school, association, or rowing club the travelling participants are a part of, Brentwood College School offers a sincere and warm welcome to you all. If rowers can spare a moment, they do have an open invitation to come visit our student art gallery which will be open in our Centre for Arts and Humanities. Diligent effort has gone into bringing this display from thought to reality and I am sure it will be enjoyed by all who attend. The 44th Brentwood Regatta was hailed as both “the best sporting event in all of North America” and “an event that rivals both the spirit and gamesmanship of the Olympics” by Pocock Rowing Center coaches last year. Boathouse Captain Elliot R, Rogers ’15, calls this annual regatta his “dame to kill for” and Featherdawn F, Alex ’15, her “pinnacle of excitement” and we hope to exceed that level of hype this time around.
