Shoulders hunched tightly against the unwavering wind and rain, Brentwood’s brave entrepreneurship class has successfully assembled their booths on the plaza. What does this mean, the average non Brentonian may ask? It means that the labours of these hard working kids is finally being put to the test, and the question remains: will they pass or fail? The Grade 12 Entrepreneurship class spends the entire year planning for this Regatta. They are required to form groups and create a business plan–usually around thirty pages of notes, data, and schedules–an impressive feat for a group of sixteen and seventeen year olds. This year, the groups have once again created amazing businesses, selling a variety of food, including grilled cheese, beaver tails, rice bowls, pasta, and much more, on the Brentwood campus during the 45th Annual Brentwood Regatta. Each group must create their own booth, by hand, and manage the buying and selling of their goods throughout the weekend. Every individual invests their own money into the project, so the experience is a very real simulation of business building–supply and demand can cause success or failure. Ellie K, Alex ‘16, a participant in this class, has said that she can’t wait for Regatta. “I’m really excited to see how our project turns out. We all worked so hard to make it a success.” As an Entrepreneurship graduate myself, I can honestly attest to the amount of time and effort this project requires–and this year it looks like the bar has been raised even higher.
