Athletics, Academics, and Arts – Brentwood’s students embody all three pillars that our school stands upon, and the fact that we do this during one of the biggest high school regattas in Canada is commendable. Friday morning the anticipation starts – boats arrive, athletes arrive … and Brentwood goes to class. We sit eagerly awaiting the moment when we will be released from Academics for the weekend, and the rowers among us try to tame the nerves that have slowly crawled their way into our stomachs. This is a weekend for people to showcase their talents, not only in rowing, but in the Brentwood Arts. This year, the Arts program has created a magnificent show for students and visitors alike. The theme is “The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” and the photographers, sculptors, drawers, painters, potters and Grade 9 actors have joined forces to create an amazing display in the Arts building. Upon entering, the viewer is thrown into the world of Alice in Wonderland. In the center of the room sits a table, presumably where one would drink tea, adorned with bright, distinctive decor and fun, creative chairs, courtesy of the sculptors. The walls are covered in artwork – photos, drawings, and paintings that follow the theme and are very fun to look at. And there were fantastic cupcakes! Taking shifts, many art students will spend time in the afternoon to guide visitors and discuss artwork. Some have even dressed the part – thanks to Mrs. Manion and Simone the rabbit! Maddi A, Alex ‘15, Head of Arts, has said that this is one of the most successful and interesting themes of the year: “Everyone worked really hard to get their pieces displayed in time, and to make them fit with the theme.” A great sucess, this Art show incompassess every aspect of Brentwood’s arts, and does a terrific job of displaying the talent that is clearly present throughout the school.
