Money flowing everywhere, from dealer to player, die rolling throughout the table, and students loaded with cash – Ellis Bucks galore. The Ellis Casino provides students with the unique experience of going to a casino run by students. On April 18th, Ellis House hosted their 2015 Open House event, opening their doors to the entire campus. Throughout the Ellis Open House, students got to experience the sensation of being in a real casino. Each student started with 1000 Ellis House dollars, which they could use to participate in a variety of activities, the most popular being poker and blackjack, but many tested their odds in roulette as well. Some even attempted to try their hand in the confusing world of liar’s dice. The Casino’s facilities also included a VIP room for those who could afford it. The $25,000 entry fee seemed a bit steep, but with free food and drink inside, it was well worth the cost. There was also a dance in the downstairs common room. Students of Ellis House worked hard throughout the night putting in long shifts such as banking, dealing, and even working security. With the combined effort of the house, it all came together just like in Monte Carlo. The 2015 Ellis Open House was an enormous success. From the beginning to the end, students continuously flowed in and out of the doors and by the end everybody felt more than satisfied with the time they spent at the event. Whether they won money or lost it, everyone had a good time. Most students even considered the Ellis Casino as the best Open House all year. The Ellis guys were glad to hear that their hard work paid off, and that the event was such a success. Ellis is looking forward to Open House again next year and we are excited to make it just as good, if not better. It’s been an Ellis tradition since the mid-nineties!
