Striking Season for Senior Soccer

Our Senior Girls Soccer season is over after a hard-fought battle at the Island Championship this past Monday & Tuesday at Mark R. Isfeld in Courtenay. We loaded up onto the bus early Monday morning and set off to finish our season strong. Our first game was against #1 ranked Ballenas Secondary, who managed to beat us, but not without a fight. We played strongly, were organized, and worked diligently to get the ball down to their end of the field. We won almost every one-on-one battle but they managed to score a few goals with their set plays and strong strikers. After a quick bite to eat, it was time for our second game of the tournament. It would be a huge factor in our success in the remainder of the tournament. Dominating a lot of the play, we were playing with passion and determination! With excellent shots from Bryn C, Mack ‘16 & Katlan S, Allard ‘16 we came so close to scoring goal upon goal but sadly many of our opportunities ended with near misses. In the second half, Takara C, Mack ’16 bolted past Lambrick’s defense and rocketed a ball into the back of their net. Sadly, a breakaway from Lambrick allowed them to come out with the 2-1 lead. With both games were over, we headed to the hotel before going to a barbeque hosted by Mollie MG, Mack ‘15 and her family. The evening was full of good conversation, yummy food and an adventure to see some pigs. After an eventful evening, the girls headed back to the hotel to get some much-needed sleep before our game against the home team, Isfeld. Tuesday morning had us geared up, our hearts pumping with school pride; we were prepared to play the hardest we ever had. With the blow of the first whistle, we played with integrity and grit while finding the joy of the game with every pass and breakaway. With a very unfortunate call, Isfeld was given a penalty kick and the score became 2-0. Even though we played with passion and skill, our time was cut short and at the end of the 70 minutes Isfeld came out with the win. We are proud of our season and how we played in every game. The improvements we made from our first game against Duncan Christian to our last were immense and allowed us to have fun, compete well, and create a solid base for the team next year! On behalf of the Grade 12s who will not be on the team next year, I would like to thank our incredible coaches, Ms. Jill Fougner and Mr. Gord Horth, for our season, thank our fellow teammates for the great memories, and wish them the best of luck next season!
