They Shoot, They Score

While everyone else at Brentwood slept cozily in their beds, the robotics team was up and moving at the glorious hour of 4:30 a.m Saturday morning. Weary but ready, we packed up the robots and headed to Vancouver for the first robotics competition of the year. After months of arduous building and planning, two teams put their skills to the test. We walked into a gym filled with metal and wires: every team was frantically making the finishing touches. Look around the room and each person could either be your teammate or your next opponent.
The two Brentwood teams went through inspection and met up with our first randomly-picked partners. The goal of the competition to get as many balls in the net as possible. Marie L, Allard ’16, Jacob N, Whittall ’16 and Joe K, Whittall ’16 conquered their first few matches. The matches requires precision and skill, which this team had. Liam B, Rogers ’16, Louis B, Rogers ’16, and Leo B, Whittall ’16 (also known as the LBs) had a rocky start with some mechanical malfunctions, but they were able to pull it together for the final few matches with some impressive shots. Both of our team’s made it past the first round of elimination, and put up a tough fight. Unfortunately, we were up against some tough opponents and lost in the second round. Both team accomplished a pretty impressive feat; this was the first tournament of the year and it is only Brentwood’s second year participating in the competitions. There are many more to come.
