ISA Champions – Junior Boys Basketball

The Brentwood Junior A Boys Basketball team returned to action after the Christmas Break at the ISA Championships this weekend in Vancouver. We came second in the tournament last year and were hoping to avenge our loss. In the first game, Brentwood was matched up against the Collingwood Cavaliers. The boys were able to shake off the rust from a three week basketball hiatus and turned in a great all-around performance. The team won the game 72-19, led by Nathan P’s 14 points, Olamide O’s 13 points, and Bruno C’s 12 points. Calvin C exhibited his scoring abilities in the fourth quarter, scoring 8 points and earning the game MVP award. In the semifinals, the team faced Southridge School. We were unrecognizable on the offensive end, scoring only 17 points in the first half. However, we were superb defensively, limiting Southridge to only 12. After a halftime speech from Coach Sullivan, the team came out and played much more like themselves, getting easy points on the fast break and in the halfcourt. Brentwood wound up winning the game 52-32. The team was lead by Olamide O’s double-double (14 points & 10 rebounds) which earned him game MVP. Johnny M and Brendan S also chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. In the ISA finals, Brentwood was set to face the St. George’s Saints. This was the team that Brentwood lost to in the 2105 ISA finals and the Saints came into the tournament ranked the #7 team in the province. We were ready for the challenge ahead of us. The game started out close, with us leading by three after the first quarter. We seemed to find our groove in the second, extending the lead to eight capped by a buzzer-beating putback layup by Casper P to end the half. The boys started the second half with great energy and confidence, helping them win the game 61-38, and making them ISA Champions for the first time. Nathan P’s 14 points earned him the game MVP award. Brendan S & Bruno C each had 11 points, while Johnny M had 4 stellar blocks, and Capser P had a near double double with 8 points and 10 rebounds.
