Grade 8 Hoops Dreams

Effort, teamwork, and promise are the three words that best describe the performance that the Grade 8 team showed at the recent Cowichan tournament.  The boys started off their first game against an experienced team from Royal Oak. The boys played very well, with Jack NG taking the ball up the court with a bold confidence, Dylan G making some excellent shots, and Torren K showing off his blinding speed as he shot down the court and made some excellent baskets.  Their second game was against the home team, Cowichan, but this did not deter the team in the slightest. The 8s pulled off a terrific win, beating the home side by a generous margin. Keaton H made some great steals and was a large threat on the defense, while Jack continued with some excellent baskets and Ben O put in an excellent game with some impressive shots including a three.  Our confident boys were next scheduled to play Sunrise School. We started off shaky getting surprised by a strong and powerful set of three girls, but we managed to settle in. A powerhouse under the post, Alulha H scored some precise baskets and Isaac Keen put in a great effort with some strong defense and rebounds. The boys won the game and set off to their most difficult opponent, Lake Trail.  This was obviously a skilled and strong team, but the 8s gave it their all and played well. Dylan made some incredible shots and was a fast player down the wing, while Ben R made some excellent steals and some great breakaway baskets, and even though he fouled out in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter, Jacob B made some good lay ups. The boys held it to a very close game but unfortunately couldn’t come away with a win.  The Brentwood Grade 8 boys showed an incredible amount of skill, passion, and pride that was awesome to be a part of. There is no denying that these athletes are the future stars of the Brentwood basketball legacy.   Jacob B, Ellis ‘19
