Whittall Open House – Get Nautical
You know the old saying, “You mess with the bull, you get the horns”? While it may be our house motto to go with our red bull logo, we are not violent people. It is more indicative of the great sense of pride we have for our house community and the camaraderie with the brothers we live with. Despite any intimidating vibes our slogan may give off, we are very friendly people, but as a collective, we always have the backs of each other and the house as a whole.
On the outside, it may look like Privett or Ellis, but behind this grey stucco, there is a well-oiled machine, of testosterone and grit and joy. Led by our fearless leaders Houseparent Mr. Blake Gage and Assistant Houseparent Ms. Adrianne Petitt, Whittall has a deep history at Brentwood. Noteworthy events include the Whittall House fire of 1978, and the graduation of the Whittall Grade 12s of 2020 – I’m foreshadowing.
Last Saturday, we had the privilege of opening our doors for all students to come and visit. For the first time in a couple years, Whittall was not gone with the theme of Halloween, so we decided to get nautical instead. That meant pretty much anything related to water: beachwear, boating outfits, Hawaiian shirts, etc. This theme was demonstrated in our open house video, which I would definitely recommend watching for a few bad puns and a solid belly flop.
Per usual Open House standard, we had pizza and drinks, and a photo booth set up for everyone to enjoy. We also had a dance area in the common room downstairs, which, with only one window and little air circulation, got a little bit sweaty late into the evening. “I believe the Open House was great,” says Whittall House Captain Will M. “Everything went according to the plan, and lots of people showed up and were enjoying themselves.” All in all, it was a great evening, and we hope we can get everyone out again next year.
