David Calder named to the Canadian Olympic Committee

Following his silver medal performance at the Beijing Olympic Games inrowing, Dave Calder (Class of 1996) has been elected to the Canadian Olympic Committee’s council. This was Dave’s third Olympic Games and his first medal. Athletes’ Council elections take place during each Olympic Games. Once they accept their role, the six members will begin serving their four-year terms when the Council next meets this fall. The Council reviews and provides recommendations to the COC on issues that impact Olympic and Pan American Games athletes, including team selection and funding. Adam Kreek, who was a member of the men’s eight crew that won rowing gold in Beijing, was elected by his peers, along with rower Iain Brambell (2008 Olympic bronze), rower David Calder (silver), kayaker Adam van Koeverden (silver), plus swimmer Rick Say and hurdler Perdita Felicien. They’ll join current winter athlete members Cassie Campbell (hockey), Deidra Dionne (freestyle ski), Alexa Loo (snowboard) and Jeff Pain (skeleton), along with former cross-country skier Beckie Scott and middle-distance runner Charmaine Crooks as well as Pan American sports representative Jaret Llewellyn (water ski) and Victoria Winter (equestrian).
