Basketball: Strong Showing in Police Tournament for Senior Boys

The Senior Boys basketball team competed in the Victoria City Police Invitational Tournament hosted by St. Michaels University School this past weekend, winning two of three games. Their only loss came at the hands of Oak Bay High School, who edged Brentwood 61-51 in a highly competitive and absorbing match. Brentwood closed a late game Oak Bay lead to six points and had opportunities to swing the momentum in their favour, but the highly talented Victoria squad were able to pull out a good win. Brentwood displayed great heart and character, battling from start to finish and earning the appreciation of a basketball-savvy crowd in the process. Saturday evening saw Brentwood meet Esquimalt High School from Victoria. Esquimalt has developed an excellent program over the last few years and their squad is one of the best AA teams in the province. It was, however, Brentwood’s day, and the team shot the ball exceptionally well and played a committed game at the defensive end of the floor. There is little doubt that a rematch between the two rivals will emerge as the season continues, perhaps during the South Island Tournament, and the Brentwood players are fully aware that the proud and highly competitive Esquimalt squad will be ready.
Sebastian Kohlmetz was selected as an All-star, enjoying a productive weekend along with his teammates.
