All Haas, No Hassle

At the end of the 2025-26 school year, the Brentwood community turned the page, saying farewell to graduating seniors and departing staff who had left an indelible mark on our campus. Each individual played a key role in shaping our community, leaving behind a proud legacy before embarking on their next chapters.

Fast forward to the 2026-2027 school year, and a fresh wave of new faces has brought vibrant energy back to the halls. One addition who has quickly won everyone over is our Ellis Boarding Faculty Assistant (BFA), Mr. Tobin Haas.

Beyond his day-to-day work in the house, Mr Haas brings a serious passion for competitive athletics, specifically hockey and rowing, where he spent years orchestrating crews from the coxswain seat. He is one of the hockey coaches this fall. The natural mix of tactical leadership, drive, and team spirit makes him a natural fit for the fast-paced rhythm of boarding life. Whether he’s talking about sports or offering advice, his enthusiasm is contagious.

“Having been in Brentwood since Grade 9, and spent these years in Ellis, I’ve seen my fair share of BFAs over my time, but Mr. Haas brings a whole new energy to the house,” notes Evan B, Ellis ‘28.

For newer house members, his presence has been equally impactful in helping them settle into boarding life. Of his arrving into Ellis as a new student Will K, Ellis ‘29, says “Mr Haas has made an effort right out of the gate to create a supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable just being themselves.”

Stepping into a boarding community and moving into a house with 48 teenagers comes with its own learning curve, but Mr Haas has hit the ground running, bringing warmth, humour, and a genuine steadying presence to Ellis. He has quickly become someone the boys know they can lean on at any hour of the day.

When asked what brought him to Brentwood, Mr. Haas summed it up simply, “I came for the weather, stayed for the family.” Since arriving from Ontario, he has enjoyed the constant activity on campus, noting, “I enjoy that there’s never a dull moment on campus.” However, adjusting to life at Brentwood has not been without its challenges, as he admits that “adapting to a new routine” has been the biggest adjustment. Despite the learning curve, Mr Haas has embraced the Brentwood community and the opportunities that come with being part of Ellis.

We are thrilled to officially welcome Mr Haas to Ellis House and the wider Brentwood family. The effort, care and positive energy he brings every day have not gone unnoticed. Having such a dedicated mentor and big-brother figure in the house means the world to all of us, and we are looking forward to making this an unforgettable 2026-2027 school year together!
