Third Term is A Treat

Third term, the most praised term of the year at Brentwood, is finally here.  Returning students rave about the wonders of third term, but it’s no exaggeration how awesome it is.  The sun shines and the air is warmer bringing excitement amongst the Brentwood students.

Third term is here.

Many students occupy Gillespie Field to play rugby and soccer with their friends and others take blankets and speakers to the field to soak up some sun. Shorts and T-shirts are no longer out of the question. The atmosphere of Brentwood is lighter, less stressful; there is much happiness as the sun breaks through the second term clouds.

Third term sport recently started, and the fields are again occupied by soccer and rugby after a long and rainy second term. The rugby teams and the girls’ soccer teams begin their competitive seasons and train harder and longer in order to have a successful season. Golf is another competitive sport. Golfers work for their personal bests as well as compete in tournaments with other high school golf teams. Tennis, of course is a hive of activity on our 8 sunny courts.

A number of exciting events take place during this glorious term in the arts, sports, and academics. In the arts, the Senior Play is a much-anticipated theatre event that entertains the Brentwood community. The Evening of Dance also showcases the talent of Brentwood’s finest. Book your tickets now!

In athletics, games and tournaments fill up the calendar for the entire term and provincials take place for rugby, tennis and soccer. Many rowing regattas are highly anticipated including St. Catharines, where select crews travel to Ontario to compete at the National Rowing Championships.

The rowers also vigorously prepare for Brentwood’s most famous event: the Brentwood International Regatta. This is the largest high school regatta in North America and attracts a massive crowd of rowers and spectators. Brentwood students count down the days until Regatta. It’s an amazing place to be. The plaza is filled with the entrepreneurship classes’ booths selling delicious, homemade food. There are bands made up of Brentwood’s rock band classes that perform throughout the weekend attracting quite an audience on the plaza. For the students and competing rowers from other schools, there are dances on the Friday and Saturday nights of the weekend that entertain every teenager.

The Grad festivities during the May long weekend is the final hoorah and icing on the cake for Grad ‘13. The Grad Dinner and Dance is a night filled with memories and fun with friends, family, and faculty. These few days remind the Grade 12s not to take this last term for granted and to live in the moment as much as possible before their high school career comes to a close.

A mixture of memorable events and ideal weather is what makes this term so special and close to the hearts of the Brentwood community. Endless sunny days of playing on the fields, kicking around a ball with friends, and getting Italian sodas from Rustie’s are the simple things that inhabit third term and bring students bliss.
