Senior Boys Outlast Oak Bay

Last Tuesday, the Senior Boys Rugby team hosted Island powerhouse Oak Bay in a match that would go down to the wire. With a storied history between the two teams, both the players and spectators knew that this match would be hard fought and closely contested.

From the opening kickoff, Brentwood fought tenaciously with flankers Loet H and Calvin H making tackles all across the pitch. On offense, Davin K was ruthless in his runs, being stopped just short of the line before Merrick M powered over.

Oak Bay was not to be outdone, however, and quickly scored two tries to give them a 12-7 lead. Brentwood pushed on with Joey R and Toby D breaking the line to score two more tries and keep Brentwood’s hopes up. Oak Bay scored another try before Marius S scored under the posts to keep the Brentwood boys ahead. Thomas S kicked a penalty to give Brentwood a six point lead with almost no time left on the clock.

With Oak Bay on the attack in injury time, an aggressive and staunch defensive effort was needed from all players to keep the fragile lead. Marius S led the charge in defense and was instrumental in turning over the ball to seal a Brentwood win.

Many of this team also participated in the BCSSRU Invitational Sevens Tournament over the weekend. Although not boasting tons of sevens experience, the boys played hard and came out as Shield winners! Congrats to all involved.
