Bryn Taps it In for the Win

After the Junior Girls Soccer team defeated Shawnigan Lake School in the Mid-Island Tournament last week, Shawnigan came back in the last league game with a win over Brentwood.

That meant we were going into Tuesday’s playoff game 1-1: the league champions vs. the tournament champion. This playoff game determined whether or not Brentwood would make it to Islands for the first time in six years.  

Shawnigan was on home turf where they had beaten us only four days before. As soon as the First 11 stepped onto that field, you could sense the fire in everyone’s hearts. The team had the urge to make the rest of Brentwood proud and to prove that a previous loss to Shawnigan wouldn’t stop us.

At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 and all the players gradually started losing hope, but then Avi S found the back of the net. 1-0 for us.

Shawnigan fought back and sent a high ball right over Hannah W’s head making the game tied. 1-1. Then, before you knew it, it was the end of the second half and the beginning of overtime.

Luckily for us, Bryn C hit the sweet spot and found the back of the net one more time. We were up 2-1 with minutes to go. Shawnigan fought back hard, of course, and Mr. Collis’ heart nearly burst when they put a free kick off the crossbar, but we were able to hold on and claim the lone mid-island berth at the Island Championships.

The girls walked off the field with our heads up and our confidence boosted. Pushing through the fatigue and pain was enough to leave Shawnigan with a smile and a spot at the Islands.

Well done, Brentwood!
