A Sunny Saturday

Last Saturday the houses were quite and the classrooms were locked as the students and faculty were given a Saturday filled with sunshine and no classes!

In Brentwood Jargon, a Red Saturday.

It couldn’t have been a better weekend. The sun was shinning on Gillespie Field; everyone was out and enjoying the sun. With sunscreen on of course, students enjoyed the temperature which got up to a high of 22 degrees.

Crooks Hall only served about 140 people on Saturday night, as most students were elsewhere enjoying their weekend. The Brentwood campus, however, was just as enjoyable; everyone loves a Red Saturday. Lots of students cooled off by jumping off the waterfront docks, or sipped a cold, colourful beverage such as a slushy. With a lifeguard present, students enjoyed a safe dip in the refreshing Pacific Ocean.

Gillespie Field is also a popular place for everyone to enjoy on a hot sunny afternoon. Playing sports like basketball, frisbee, rugby and many more, there wasn’t a better place to hang out.

Some students even hopped on a bus over to Shawinigan Lake School to support their peers. The Junior Girls Soccer team was playing in the ISA tournament. They finished with a Bronze medal with all of their friends there to support and congratulate them on their win.

With Saturday coming to an end, everyone started to walk back to his or her house for sign-in. The sun was slowly setting, painting a beautiful sky filled with oranges and pinks. It was a perfect way to end a spectacular day. The first Red Saturday of May was a tremendous success. Sometimes everyone just needs one weekend to relax, enjoy the sunshine and fully appreciate our beautiful campus.

By Sunday night everyone was back on campus; the free weekend with no classes and sun-drenched weather was over. But not to worry, there is another one tomorrow, with warm weather in the forecast.

If you’re a sports fan, Girls (1:15)  and Boys (Juniors 2:00 / Seniors 3:15) Rugby have games at home on Saturday and the rowing club will be in full swing at the Shawnigan Lake Regatta at the Provincial Park on West Shawnigan Lake Road all weekend.
