A Routine to Remember

On Friday, May 10th five of Brentwood’s tops dancers entered a bus at 9 a.m. heading to a dance competition they will not soon forget. The Brentwood College dance program was not always as competitive, but seeing the raw skill in her fellow dancers, Captain Michelle M signed her team (consisting of Sally S, Rebecca M, Youngeun L, Sierra K and herself) up for the Core Dance Competition in Nanaimo. The plan was to display one routine involving all five dancers. Their dance was the first of many in the high school contemporary category, and, to say the least, they were nervous. After all of the presentations, cheering could be heard from the crowd. The fact that there were no Brentwood College students in the crowd was nerve-racking, but once the dancing slowed, the music stopped, and their routine was finished, the crowd went wild. Once the dancers were off the stage they watched the remaining dances and awaited the verdict. Eventually it came, and the judges listed off each routine’s score. Gold! Brentwood was one of only two groups to receive a gold score.
Finally, the placement… the judges named the third and second place winners, neither was Brentwood. The girls all exchanged looks of extreme anticipation. And in first place, Brentwood College School! After receiving their trophy and reward buttons, they headed back to the school, very satisfied after making history for the Brentwood dance program.
