While most houses conduct a #1 Inspection on Saturday morning, when Mr. Patel comes around for a visit, Mackenzie House opted for a thorough cleaning and casual evening with the Head of School.   The rooms were still in pristine condition (of course) for we wouldn’t expect anything less than a scrutinizing examination for exceptional cleanliness and dustless shelves from Mr. Patel. The main purpose of the event, however, was not to show off how astounding Mackenzie House is, but to let the girls have a chance to have some friendly conversation with Mr. Patel and his family.  Dark clouds and showers may not be the best scene for an outdoor BBQ, but we Mack girls know how to work a grill, no matter what the weather! With the help of Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Flynn and our very own Grillmaster Grace P, we had some amazing burgers, hotdogs and salads as we chatted with Mrs. Patel, Mr. Patel and their daughter, Antara, about all sorts of things.  As the assigned photographer for the night, I followed Mr. Patel and the Prefects on duty through the house to inspect rooms, and I realized two very different things. First, I do not make for a very good paparazzi, for I stumbled through rooms and ran into everybody as I tried to “get the shot.” Second, although the title ‘Head of School’ can be incredibly daunting, Mr. Bud Patel is far from scary.  Making friendly conversation with the girls as he inspected their rooms, Mr. Patel knew exactly who each and every one of the girls was, and treated them with absolute sincerity.  By the end of the night, Mr. Patel declared that Mack House was the best house and I couldn’t agree more. The girls, Mrs. Flynn, Mr. Robinson, and Mrs. Cheung put on an exceptional BBQ/Inspection and we are all incredibly thankful to Mr. Patel and his family for coming over for some fine dining and conversation.  Mollie G, Mackenzie ‘13
