On January 18th Allard hosted the first Open House of 2014. With black paint streaked on our faces and clothed in our army attire, students made their way to Allard House at 7:30. Pumping music and flashing lights welcomed the students. House Captain Karly D and the Allard Grade 12s conjured up the idea of a military themed Open House back in September. This was a theme very different from last year’s Barbie Dream House. Every hallway, common room, and open dorm was filled with people dancing and having a good time. The downstairs main common room, alive with beats played by Katrina F and Geraldine O from a professional sound system, contributed to the wow factor of the Open House. Food and drinks including veggies and dip, chip mix, pop, and fruit punch, circulated the house keeping everyone’s stomach satisfied. Green, black and gold streamers hung from the ceiling and lined the stairwells adding to the military theme. A photo booth decorated in army print, old tires, and netting was occupied all through the night with friends taking pictures. Smiles light the rooms as students strike a pose in front of the camera. This is something proven to be very popular at past Open Houses as it captures the fond memories of the event. The Grade 12s’ work and dedication in making this a successful night really paid off. The next day was filled with students anticipating this posting of photo booth pictures and telling funny stories of Open House ‘14. Teachers and students are still raving about the positive feedback from the event. Well done Allard! Maddie M, Allard ‘15
