Brentwood’s Visual Arts Program

Creativity, self-expression, and communication: the arts programs at Brentwood help students collect their creative thoughts and transform them into visual masterpieces. Three afternoons a week, from 2:00 until 6:00 pm, students engage in a wide range of artistic pursuits. Every student is enrolled in at least two arts courses of their choice that run for the full year, and we are given the chance to try new things and find something we are passionate about. The arts program continues to enrich our imaginations and open our minds to new opportunities and challenges. This amazing program is truly something that is admired. Enter the visual arts studio and you will find students engaged in pottery, photography, sculpture, drawing and painting, or architectural design. Whatever your passion, Brentwood has it to offer. Through a mixture of both solo and cooperative projects, students reach their full potential as artists through the support of encouraging classmates and talented teachers. Through courses such as Foundations Arts, Visual Art 3D Sculpture, Advanced Placement Studio Art, and Environmental Art, students are truly pushed to their full potential, and challenged with new ideas and concepts. Visual Studio Art: Drawing and Painting, which I personally find very interesting, is designed for students to cover a variety of subject matter including life drawing, portraiture, landscape, still life, perspective, composition and abstraction. With such a wide variety of art forms, each student can find something they are passionate about. All Brentonians get involved in the creative process. Whether it is as a participant, or a member of the audience, the work of our students is something to take a moment and admire as we walk down the halls of the new Centre for Art and the Humanities. The arts program at Brentwood continues to provide balance and perspective. It creates a sense of culture in our community and allows our minds, and hearts, to expand. Maddie M, Mackenzie ‘15
