Imagine three feet of snow, and now double that. The Mount Washington Alpine Resort has a base, now, of almost six feet. Although the mountain had a late start to their season this year, they are now in full swing. Even the backcountry skiing off the Boomerang chair is open, which is significant because many predicted these runs wouldn’t open again until next season. About thirty of us on a recent snowy Sunday experienced the deep, fluffy powder up on the hill. It was absolutely incredible, to say the least. The snow did not let up over the course of the day, so fresh snow was to be found from the moment we skied our first run, all the way until our final descent. And although a 5am start to the day isn’t exactly ideal, it was undoubtedly worth it. Mount Washington is great because it gives those with less experience a chance to learn and those with more experience a chance to challenge themselves. Yes, the weather was cold but the snow conditions were so fabulous that we all forgot about how numb we were and just had a great time! The day ended with rental returns, and then the trek down the mountain. It was slow-going, simply because snow was still falling and many people were making their way home for the night. Most of us fell asleep before we reached the stop for dinner, which ranged from Save on Foods, to Burger King, to Starbucks. As the sky became darker, the bus became quieter as we all were extremely exhausted from the long day on the hill. The consensus? A terrific day, spent with even better people. Karli S, Hope ‘15
