The Climb to Kelowna

Sitting on a bus for 9 hours can make anyone go crazy. Slowly but surely the Mill Bay Shock U17 Volleyball girls reached their destination, Kelowna. This intense tournament began with round robin games, and finished the weekend off with playoffs. Teams all across BC came to Kelowna to compete for the first place title and to get ranked for provincials. The trek to our destination was almost as difficult as the games we endured. A Brentwood bus filled with 9 teenage girls is a migraine waiting to happen. The girls entertained themselves by playing cards, taking naps, listening to music, and talking for hours on end. Minus a couple pit stops, it was smooth sailing to the hotel. Waking up the next morning, we were all energized and ready to play. Winning our first 3 games, power hitter Allie W, and middle blocker Rachel J stayed focused and kept the team on a winning streak. Finishing our third game with a win, our confidence was high. Tired from the first few games we lost our cross over match. Rookie, Sarah B, kept the team together with her upbeat attitude. Winning the playoff games the next morning, we rushed onto the bus in the hopes of catching the 9:00pm ferry home. With the outcome of 5 wins and 1 loss, the weekend was a success. Mrs. Fougner, Mr. Minkler and the team are eager to start the high school season next September head on with confidence. We are excited for the upcoming season, which includes a tournament in California, and Provincials in our very own Brentwood gym.
