“It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight, rising up to the challenge of our rival!” Cate B cranked “The Eye of the Tiger,” on her nearly exploding speaker as the Junior Girls’ Soccer bus roamed the streets of Salt Spring Island. After a strong victory against one of the top teams, Kelsey, winning 3-2, the Junior Girls were pumped and ready to maintain their winning streak against the Gulf Islands Scorpions. The whistle blew and the game commenced. The ball was passed around with great control and strength by Brentwood. Gulf Islands’ determined and aggressive play pushed Brentwood around. However, with this pressure the girls were eager to win and put in a top effort. The ball stayed primarily in the offensive end for Brentwood. Sarah B, our goal keeper, had a great game hardly having to touch the ball. Brentwood’s strong defensive kicks down the sideline seemed to be most effective. Finally, with a couple of minutes remaining in the first half, Takara C made an amazing cross to Bryn C creating the first goal of the game. In the second half, off of Cate B’s throw in down the line, Takara C made a run. From the left side of the net the ball was booted into the corner. This finished the game off at 2-0. The Junior Girls have almost completed their mission of going to Islands. Winning all of their league games to this point, the girls are confidently looking forward to the true “challenge of our rival” against Shawningan Lake School on April 24th. If we are victorious, the girls will be ranked first for Mid Islands giving us a placement in Islands. Please come out and support at 3:30 today.
