The End Is Nigh 1
Sob uncontrollably into your recently purchased 44th annual Brentwood Regatta blanket. Cry with unbridled sorrow as you lick the last trace of churro sugar from your shaking finger. Rip your unisuit into tattered shreds, throwing the remnants of what was once your rowing outfit into the hungry mouths of awaiting seals. Phone your mom for moral support. Brentwood Regatta is coming to an end. Even though there were massive wind delays that pushed many of Saturday’s races into roostersleep times, to call Sunday anything other than an utter success would be a disgusting misuse of words, worthy of such punishments as being drawn and quartered or a twenty-five dollar fine. Starting as early as 4:30 a.m., tired, disheveled rowers with bed head like none other competed stoutheartedly, their bodies ready for another hard dose of the sport that is rowing. After strong performances – medal winning performances – by clubs and school such as Pocock Rowing Center, Sammamish Rowing Club, Mount Baker Rowing Club, Bainbridge Island Crew, and our very own Brentwood College, many happy crews will be travelling home in their wildly large buses with hardware in their roughly callused palms. Just like the number of touchdown passes completed between 1994 to 2007 by CFL and NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia, Brentwood’s 44th Annual Regatta had 149 races completed. This goes to show that this is no small tea party of an event. Rowing clubs from far and wide and close and home were all in attendance, and all competed with respect and tip-of-the-hat worthy performances. Recognition must go out to the rowing coaches at Brentwood for their extreme coordination tasks, albeit insanely difficult [due to sheer number alone amongst other factors]. All of the athletes would also like to sincerely thank Mrs. Debbie Sage for coordinating this rowing extravaganza: her efforts have not gone unnoticed. More thank yous are due to the myriads of volunteers, be they intrepid entrepreneurship students, bored-out-of-their-mind parking signalers, or technologically advanced rooftop directors – they all deserve a whopping smack on the back for their achievements in one way or another helping this 44th annual bonanza to flourish. As foreign rowing clubs and schools head home in their respective vehicles, Brentwood hopes that they are thinking of the fantastic experience that they all just had; from the tasty treats, to the rowing heats, to the boats in fleets, to the big dance meet, to the crews they beat, and how the whole regatta was a great time and one worth coming back to next year because it was pretty neat. Thank you to all the crews for coming to Brentwood College. We look forward to seeing you next regatta. Toby CH, Privett ‘15
