On Wednesday, May 7, the Brentwood Dance Program travelled to Nanaimo and Victoria for a day packed with performances and competitions. To begin, five dancers travelled up to Nanaimo, where they competed in the annual Core Dance Competition. “The Human Condition” choreographed by Youngeun L was flawlessly performed by Rebecca M, Sierra K, Sally S, Emma C, & Youngeun. This did not go unnoticed as they were awarded Gold, as well as a first place trophy. Later that day they hastily made their way to Victoria where they regrouped with the Junior, Intermediate, and Advanced classes. All three classes performed impressively at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival at the University of Victoria. Each piece was given a great response from the audience and from the adjudicator who showed enjoyment through her notes and comments. The Advanced class was asked to return and perform “Goodbye Blue Sky” choreographed by Lorraine Blake, at the Highlights Concert on Monday evening. As the final 2014 performance of the entire Advanced class, performing at the Highlights Concert was a perfect ending to the competition period of the year. Youngeun L, Alexandra ‘14
