October ’26 Sports Update
The fall term at Brentwood has been a bright and sunny one, more often than not, and along with the great weather, there have been some excellent experiences and some terrific results for many of the competitive teams. To heighten and expand the enjoyment of the students in action, many of our events are being live-streamed or recorded using HUDL technology, so be sure to check the details in the coaches’ emails when they provide you with updates—they’ll share the link there if the event is being streamed.
Our Cross Country group is an athletic bunch that has already had some stellar results in the local Cowichan Valley Race series. Our students are already making preparations for both Islands and Provincials. The Island Championship will be hosted by Nanaimo Christian School, and for those who qualify, our runners will travel to Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford in early November.
As I write this, our Senior Girls Field Hockey Team is in the Cowichan Valley competing for a berth to the Island Championships. They have really come together as a group under the guidance of the coaches and the leadership of Hilary S and Sterling R. While the ISAA tournament did not go quite as well as they had hoped at Crofton House School—where they managed some good results and showcased some incredible team play—they came up just short of their goal for the event. The group is keen to extend their season, and that journey begins today!
The energy and enthusiasm that fill the Foote Centre every sports afternoon comes from our popular Brentwood Volleyball Program. The development of the girls in such a short time has been incredible. The fundamentals being learned in the junior teams and the positional play, transitions, and strategic execution at the senior levels are on a rapid trajectory. It has been enjoyable watching the Junior Girls teams get their first wins of the season. Their smiles after games are infectious! This weekend our juniors will be competing at Belmont Secondary and Royal Bay Secondary in a large event. The experience they will gain here will set them on a positive path forward in their development. Our Senior Girls A team has been off to a roaring start this year after doing well at UBC and then recently winning the Wellington Invitational. Their season is just getting going, however, with several events still to come, including the Brentwood Classic, North Islands, Islands and hopefully, a long run at Provincials.
On the pitch, the Boys Soccer Program is well underway. Both the Senior Boys and the Junior Boys medalled at ISAAs after tough matches against St George’s School. The Juniors managed a silver medal while the seniors took bronze. Their play in the local league is also going well with competitive matches both home and away. The seniors will be looking to secure the top seed with the North Island Championships just around the corner at the end of the month. The Juniors will be travelling to Mark Isfeld School for Islands in two weeks with confidence and high hopes.
While it is not the competitive season for our competitive Brentwood Rowing crews, enrollment in the program is incredible, and the water has been flat. Athletes from Green Lake in Seattle have visited for the annual collaborative camp, and together with our crews they put in loads of kilometres in the Saanich Inlet and enjoyed Brentwood hospitality. Our competitive crews are currently in Boston, MA, for the Head of the Charles Regatta and are setting goals for themselves amidst some excellent competition. This experience will set teams up for all of the training they have in store in the winter months.
The next few weeks will be fast and furious for all of our competitive athletes. They will be travelling across the Island and the Lower Mainland, hoping to put their best foot forward.
Let’s go Brentwood!
