Wes Hyde, a local environmental engineer and alternative energy consultant came to visit the Geography 12 classes last week. He described various types of alternative energy systems, their pros and cons, from wind to solar, helping students gain a better appreciation of renewable energy issues. Wes also described some local initiatives and some careers that are developing around the alternative energy field. Students left with a better understanding of the problems involved in switching to alternative energy sources and of the school’s own energy systems including the solar panels and geothermal heat exchange that operates in the new Centre for Arts and Humanities building.
