An Under The Sea Celebration

“Everything’s better, down where it’s wetter, under the sea!”

Last weekend, Alex House had their shot at hosting their annual Open House with the theme ‘Under the Sea’. With great attendance, the house hosted guests on all three floors. The ground floor featured the bluey-green depths of the sea floor; the middle floor was transformed into a pirate ship; the top floor was a tropical paradise.

Students began to file in at 7:30, eager for some Saturday night relief. The decorations lined the halls: the work of several hours by the dedicated Alex House girls. At the door, guests were taken for a gummy fish guessing game, to be announced at assembly the following week, with the winner awarded the jar (the winning guess was 247.)

The common room was transformed into a dance floor. Students decked out in all the beachy and watery attire of the ocean’s depth enjoyed dancing, music and submarine fun. There was also a photo booth with props of sea-life and smiles all around.

On middle floor, ‘Pirate Pong’ was in full swing, creating a competitive atmosphere as people of all shapes, sizes, and subaqueous outfits fought it out to see who could score the title for the ultimate ‘pong’ champion (as well as a free drink).

The Grade 11s served up multicolored Italian sodas for eager consumption, and a baked goods stall graced the top floor with a variety of delicious decorated treats for sale. Thanks go to the day students and parents who contributed to the bake sale.

All around, the Open House was a great success. Alex House would like to thank all who attended, and all the people who contributed to decorating, baking and assisting in the process. We look forward to another great one next year!
