Brentwood Batters Blue Jags

On Saturday afternoon the Brentwood College 1st XV Rugby team played the St. Michaels Blue Jags. Our boys had a light training session in the morning followed by a team lunch and some inspiring words from the Head of School, Mr. Patel. The fire was visible in their eyes; they had something to prove. Kickoff was at 3:15 and the boys got off to a good start with the forwards leading the charge to crash over the try line off of a penalty. SMUS kicked a penalty to make it 14-3. At halftime the Brentwood boys were up 24-3 on a shell-shocked SMUS team. The Brentwood boys, however, began to let up in the second half, letting SMUS come back to make it a 38-25 final for Brentwood.
Calvin S led the team offensively as he managed to break the gain line over and over again to create many opportunities. Austin G also played well, scoring one try early in the game and another shorthanded during Brentwood’s penalty.
On Saturday, May 25th, the team will play the first round of provincials at Brentwood. The week after, the boys will head to Abbotsford ranked #1 in British Columbia for the AA tournament.
