Brentwood Battles for ISA Bronze

The crisp air last Friday morning rolled around the Brentwood Junior Girls Soccer squad as they hopped onto the bus with five soccer balls and bucket load of determination. They were headed to the playing ground of the ISA Tournament.

The girls started their warm up a few short minutes before kickoff with Queen Margaret’s School. This first game was a comfortable win for Brentwood and the final whistle brought a 5-0 score. With a quick lunch back at the Brentwood cafeteria the girls refueled and got back on the bus ready for more friendly competition.

The girl’s second game of the day was against a more aggressive team from Vancouver, Crofton House. With five starters injured and tired from playing in the heat, the Brentwood Junior Girls scraped out of the game with a one goal lead. These games played in the afternoon were all the action they were a part of on Friday. The girls rode the bus back to Brentwood for the second time that day to rest up for their qualifying game on Saturday morning.

The Junior Girls woke up bright and early on a Red Saturday morning to head back over to Shawnigan to play two more games. A brisk warm up woke them up and they were ready to play West Point Grey Academy. The kick off began and the girls were off to a good start. With many strong passes being made and the possession of the ball dominated by Brentwood, the game looked fairly predictable in favor of our girls. Unfortunately, a penalty kick was called and WPGA took a good shot at the net. Our keeper Hannah W caught the ball but unfortunately juggled it into the net. The game continued with many shots made by Brentwood but luck was just not on our side. The game ended with a disappointing 1-0 loss to WPGA. The eloquent and optimistic Mr. Collis, of course, managed to get the hearts of upset, tired, and overheated Junior Girls in the right place as we thanked the team for a good game.

The Brentwood bus headed back containing hungry girls. With the gold medals no longer in reach, we reset our sights on bronze metals.

The girls headed back to Shawnigan to play their last game with their friendly competitors Shawnigan. A very intense and competitive game commenced at kick off and both teams had the thought of bronze metals on their minds. A long and tiring game against Shawnigan concluded in a 2-1 victory for our Brentwood Junior Girls. They collected their bronze metals and celebrated their well-earned win against a tough competitor.

A week ago the Junior Girls qualified for the Island Championships. You can see them in action at Kelsey Secondary School this Thursday and Friday. Best of luck to the Girls!
