Brentwood Boys Tops in Tennis

With clear sunny skies finally making an appearance, high school tennis returned to the outdoor courts this week as Brentwood hosted players from Shawngian, Frances Kelsey, Cowichan High and Victoria in a triple-knock out Spring Challenge Doubles Tournament. A total of 28 teams took part in the two day event with the Brentwood boys’ team taking top honors alongside a combined Cow High/Victoria girls’ team. Both “A” Division finals provided spectators with high levels of shot making and skill. The boys final was a match was between two of the top high school doubles teams in the province and came down to a third set tiebreaker to decide the winner. These boys are all terrific tennis players and there were many excellent shots made throughout the match. In the end, Brentwood’s Nick M and Christopher C defeated Jonathan W and Stephen W from Shawnigan to capture top spot. On the girls’ side, Natalia S of Duncan and Sybella G of Victoria out rallied the Brentwood team of Ingrid C and Nancy M. In the boys’ B Final, Matayea D and Daniel D of Victoria defeated Jack X and Yuji A of Shawnigan in another terrific match decided by a third set tiebreaker. The girls’ B final was won by Sarina S and Cassie H of Shawnigan defeating Natalie L-R and Alexa A-C from Brentwood. In the boys’ C final, Brandon C and Jordan F of Shawnigan defeated Wasay C and Alejandro G of Brentwood. The girls’ C final was won by Lena B and Declen S of Shawnigan over Carly G, and Karen W, also of Shawnigan. With the BBQ going non-stop for two days, a great time was had by all.
