Brentwood Girls Hit Hard in Vegas!

The Las Vegas 7s High School Rugby Tournament is attended by teams from all over North America, from Hawaii to Mississippi and Mexico to Canada. It runs February 12th-15th, during Las Vegas’ winter season, but this year it was hotter than British Columbia gets in the heat of summer. Six Brentwood girls were selected to represent their province, British Columbia: Ciel A-B, Avi S, Mckenna H & Denise R. Ciel and Denise competed in the Elite High School division, where they played four games the first day and three on the second. The Women’s Elite BC team made it to the final where they played the All-American Serevi team. The match was tense and the All-American team wanted to prove their improvements from losing again BC last year. The All-American team won the match by three tries, and B.C. walked, triumphant and proud, away with a Silver medal. Mckenna and Avi competed in the Women’s Social High School division for U18. On day one Mckenna and Avi collected four wins. After two games on day two, BC made the final against fellow Canadians, Ontario. Ontario’s senior players and their size overpowered the British Columbia girls on the outside, and Mckenna and Avi finished the tournament with a Silver medal as well. This tournament helped the Brentwood girls develop as high-performance, representative athletes; they have a promising athletic future ahead of them. With their competitive high school season fast approaching, the girls’ rugby team will no doubt have a lot to prove.
