Brentwood Regatta: Hours Away

In less than 40 hours, an army of parents, coxswains, coaches and rowers will be storming through our gates in large numbers. This weekend is the Brentwood International Regatta, a time when our campus turns into a rower’s paradise with all kinds of food and drink, a high level of competition and, hopefully, good weather.

While racing begins Friday afternoon at 2:00, students will be prepared and briefed on their jobs on Thursday to make sure everything goes smoothly. Jobs will vary from boat driver, to clothing shop manager, to cleaning crew, but all jobs are essential to keep the regatta running smoothly. It is because of this level of service that over 1500 athletes will arrive at our doorstep. An event this large is only possible with the help of every single student, faculty and staff member. Also, a number of Brentwood parents and alumni will take on jobs.

Races will begin at 7 on Saturday and Sunday and go far into the evening depending on the weather. They will race on the 1500-meter course out in the bay, a racecourse that is known for often being windy and bumpy. Both of Brentwood’s boys and girls rowing programs will be hoping to win the High School Eights on home turf.

After months of preparation, the entrepreneurship groups will be setting up their booths in a competition to outsell their classmates. This opportunity also allows for a large variety of shops to be available not far from the water making the plaza into the central hub of the regatta, something that makes our event unique.

Friday and Saturday nights, dances will be taking place on the main plaza. Throughout the afternoons, a number of students and musicians will be on the stage performing live music. The rock bands and Brentwood Choir and will be playing several songs, to entertain our guests after a day of intense racing.

It is a very exciting time at Brentwood as our campus is about to become a mecca for rowers across the west coast of North America. All we can do is hope for good weather and have fun. We hope to see you at our regatta.
