Bronze for Senior Volleyball

The Senior Girls Volleyball team travelled to Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo last weekend for a tournament that started off with a bang when we played STA, winning an incredibly challenging match 34-32. We came first in our pool Friday after going undefeated and moved to the semi-finals. The bus ride back to school was filled with anticipation for the competition tomorrow would bring! Arriving back in Nanaimo Saturday, we were all pumped to continue our nine game winning streak. After coming close to a victory in the first set against Oak Bay, alas it was not to be. We overcome our disappointment quickly and focused on the task ahead – taking home the Bronze! Our Bronze match was against Dover Bay, meaning stiff competition, making it an intense way to end off the tournament. We were close in points with them in the first match: the first game went to Brentwood. It could have gone either way in the second but we pulled together – completing our passes, making our blocks, winning our spikes – and won Bronze! Placing 3rd of 48 teams in this tournament was a showing we are proud of! Co-Captain Allie W, Hope ’16 won the All Star Award as well as the interest of the VIU volleyball coach who was recruiting! Taylor C, Allard ’17 won the Runner Up All Star Award. Both were well deserved! The tournament was a great success and the team continues to practice hard for our long-term goal – winning the Islands and Provincials! Next up for us is Camosun College over Thanksgiving and then onto the Brentwood Classic on home turf in mid-October! Natalie M, Mackenzie ‘16
