At the World Junior (U19) Rowing Championships last weekend Elliot Rogers and his Canadian Junior Men’s quad were part of the best race of the day. Racing in the ‘B’ final for places 7-12, the Canadian crew raced from the middle of the pack in the second half of the race and won in 6:09.39 over Hungary, Brazil, Russia, Denmark and Turkey. Canada’s time would have placed the crew 4th in the ‘A’ final.  Evie Angelov and Sydney Payne placed 5th in the ‘A’ final of the Junior Women’s pair ahead of New Zealand by 0.12. Italy won the gold, Chile the silver and United States the bronze. In fourth was Germany, four seconds ahead of the Canadians.  Sydney and Elliot will have a very short summer holiday before they start at the University of California Berkeley in two weeks. Evie will begin at the University of Western Ontario in September.
