Brentwood has a history of great athletes, a history derived from both the school sports program and the connection to past-Brentonians in the athletic world. There is a niche in the Brentwood community in which future athletic careers are formed, and Grade 12 student Jordan C, Privett ’13, fits right in.

Jordan is finishing his 4th and final year at Brentwood, and preparing himself for his bright, basketball-filled future. A renowned basketball player at both Brentwood and in British Columbia, Jordan has many opportunities presenting themselves.

During the last 4 years he has consistently played on the BC Provincial U15, U16 and U17 teams, an extensive showcase of his talent. Today Jordan will be playing in the BC All-Star game in Langley, where he was one of only 20 selected for their talents from across the province.  The game can been seen today at tinyurl.com/d6v79xd starting at 4:00.

At Brentwood, he was Captain of the Senior team, which won the Silver medal (a first in 75 years of Brentwood basketball history) at the Provincials Championships last month. Prior to the provincials, they played at the Islands, where Jordan was named “Island MVP”.

Asides from his accomplished athletics, Jordan is a well-rounded Brentwood student. Last night Jordan performed in the school play, “Up the Down Staircase”, after balancing months of rehearsal with his demanding basketball routine and academics. An excellent student, Jordan has also consistently been Commended for his efforts and earned his Academic Colours.

Jordan is a day student from Duncan who also balances his home life with vast commitments. Recently, Jordan made his decision to continue his life on Vancouver Island by signing a letter of intent to play his post-secondary basketball with the University of Victoria Vikings. We wish him well and look forward to seeing him play.

“Location wasn’t a huge deal breaker for me, but staying on the island comes with many perks,” says Jordan of his choice. “The coach was really interested in having me play.”

Being an Islander, going to UVic gives Jordan many advantages. With the high school basketball season over, Jordan has already started to train with the UVic team, and will continue to do so during the summer thanks to the proximity to home.

After UVic comes Jordan’s biggest goal. “I’ll possibly try out for the National team” mused Jordan. This is an ambition that we all know he can fulfill.

I have known Jordan for 6 years, Starting before we both came to Brentwood in Grade 9. He has always been a close friend of mine, and I have never once questioned his determination.  His abilities to make me laugh are a solace, and are remarked on by his friends. His ability to dunk is noted by everyone.
