Going into the ISABCs, the Junior Girls Soccer Squad was like a beach full of stranded whales; defeated, bedraggled, but yet so close to the refreshing ocean we could almost taste it. We were waiting for that wave of energy to come up the beach and allow us to swim away, victorious. Coming off of a difficult season with lots of close calls and tough losses, the Junior Girls Soccer team was ready to orchestrate an all-win tournament at Shawnigan. Competing against junior squads from all over the province, this would be no easy feat. But as we faced our first opponent SMUS, we banded together to make sure this would be a one-sided match in our direction. The game was fast-paced, with Brentwood dominating the play and getting chance after chance on their skilled goaltender, but it came out in a one-all tie. We would have to win our next game against Crofton to get first in our pool for the advantage going into the playoffs on Saturday. Against Crofton, we exerted our strength and took advantage of our physicality to completely overrun Crofton in a 3-1 victory ensuring our spot in the semifinal the following morning. We headed home to regain our strength, ice our sore muscles, and get ready for the games ahead. Saturday morning was sunny and as crisp as a fresh apple. The field was ready to go for our cleat-clad feet. Our enemy: GNS. Our goal: Victory. Right off the get-go we opened the scoring, which gave the Brentwood squad all the forward momentum and we capitalized twice more. This 3-1 triumph launched us into the finals against our previous contenders and rivals SMUS. This matchup was like no other; the game was heated from the beginning and despite us carrying the play (including 2 crossbars and a post) it was locked at a standstill nil nil up until the final five minutes. This is where Sarah B, Allard ‘17, struck a brilliant shot that went off the post tricking the goaltender, and just trickled into the awaiting goal. We knew then that the match was over, and the Brentwood Junior Girls were victorious! We are all very happy to close the season with such amazing play and a chance to take home gold medals. A big thank you to Mr. Collis and Mr. Kulai for being such amazing coaches this year. The rest of our season will include some fun practices and maybe some exhibition game against nearby teams, and we are excited for the future of girls soccer at Brentwood. Gina B, Mackenzie ‘17
