Week after week, the Junior A Volleyball team found themselves on the court, continuously improving and preparing for the most important tournament of the year, Islands. This year, Brentwood hosted this tournament in which the best teams from Vancouver Island competed for a berth in the BC Provincial Championships.

Placed in a pool with Belmont and Timberline, and facing other teams such as Isfeld and Claremont, this weekend was bound to be quite a learning curve for both the girls and the coaches.

After the first day, we found ourselves third in our pool: this was the expected result. The next games, however, were much less predictable. After a distressing loss against Isfeld, the girls left the court with grim faces and hunched shoulders. Thankfully, we were able to pick ourselves back up, crushing Lake Cowichan. Not only did this win rekindle the energy and hope within the team, but it also secured us a spot at Provincials.

This tournament proved to be one of the most challenging times for the team. It was very emotionally and physically demanding. Despite finishing the tournament with a loss, the team left on a high. This team is the first Junior A volleyball team, in Brentwood’s history, to make it to the Provincial Championships!

We are off to Delta on Thursday, November 26. Make sure to wish us luck!
