Leaders of Tomorrow: The Class of 2014

On Sunday, May 26th Brentwood’s Student Peer Assistance Resource Counselors (SPARC) and Mrs. Felix led a fun and thrilling trip to the Easter Seals Camp on Shawinigan Lake for the Grade 11s. This outing allows the 11s to exercise their leadership skills for next year’s positions. There were lots of activities that inspired the 11s to practice responsibility and prepare to take charge for their Grade 12 year. These included Capture the Flag, a canoe race, and many more. The grade was split up into groups and given a team colour; after that they had to create a team name and a cheer. “It was a lot of fun, great bonding and team building. You’ll enjoy next year” Lucy S told me. As a Grade 10, I am very eager for next year’s Leaders 11 Sunday trip. It is a highlight in the Grade 11 year. Though grade eleven is a challenging year, the bonding and the awareness that this is the last push before they will begin leading the school next fall is an exhilarating feeling. After the pleasure-filled and sensational day, they got to relish a meal. “We had an excellent dinner of beef or chicken burgers with a delicious salad and chilled ice cream” observed Danielle A. What a flawless way to end a momentous day.” Mr. Patel commented that “Leadership has always been woven into the Brentwood fabric. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in our art studios, on service projects, or in the houses, everyday, there are hundreds of examples of demonstrated leadership. Service, responsibility, and empathy are key attributes of a leader.” This is what every class in Brentwood inspires to be; we all want to lead our school in the best way possible. This trip is just another way to prepare our future leaders not only for Brentwood but for our post-Brentwood futures as well.
