Sisterhood: a community or society of women. This definition is a summary of the atmosphere in Mackenzie, but it leaves out a few details. Let’s not forget the laughter that rings through our hallways everyday, the heart-to-hearts that keep us up late, and the tears (of sadness and joy) that have been cried along the way. This year was the beginning of a new era for Mackenzie. The ever-outstanding Mrs. Flynn stepped down from Houseparenting after 13 unforgettable years and our lovable Ms. Cheung took the reins. Ms. McCallum, our wise and vegetarian sensei, became our assistant houseparent. The year kicked off to a great start as we welcomed 32 new sisters, making us the biggest (and always the best) house in Brentwood history. We witnessed the nervous Grade 9s experience and embrace the Brentwood culture, smiles always on their faces. The Grade 10s welcomed their new peers and taught them the tricks and the trades of Brentwood, making way for a smooth adjustment for our new girls. Our eager and experienced Grade 11s closely followed our Grade 12s, learning what it takes to be a leader and a big sister, especially when they shadowed us during our Prefect-In-Training months. Bidding adieu to our beloved and diverse group of Grade 12s, we recall all of our valuable lessons of leadership. Patience, compassion, love, optimism, and respect were passed down to our younger girls as the Prefects set unforgettable examples of friendship and trust. We set our differences at the door to work toward one common goal: not giving up and always looking up. Thank you to all of the girls, the duty staff, and families of Mack House who I have been so fortunate to meet. No matter where life takes us, I know the friendships we’ve made in Mackenzie will last a lifetime. Sisterhood to me is building bonds so strong that the strain of distance and the hands of time can never wear them down. Here’s to a great year and many more to come for Mackenzie.
