On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink!

One Wednesday, the 25th, Brentwood students made a splash with pink onesies, pink shorts, pink socks, but most reasonably, pink t-shirts, to take a stand against bullying. After a male student in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing the colour pink back in 2007, students at his school (and then schools across the world) took up the challenge and wore pink to demonstrate their support. “I thought Pink Day was a lot of fun, and it brought the school together to make a stand,” participant Vayuna S, Mackenzie ’15 said. “We as a group said that we don’t stand for bullying, and it makes a difference.” Our awesome SPARC (Student Peer Assistance Resource Counsellors) team also decided to host Write Love on Your Arms on the same day. This is a campaign where friends (or even strangers) wrote kind messages on each other’s arms and wrists to prevent self-harm and raise awareness for those who struggle with self-harm. While it’s true Brentwood students will never pass up an opportunity to dress in pink for free, we’ll also never pass up a chance to support a good cause and spread awareness. We agree with having the freedom to wear a colour without being forced into a gender role and having the knowledge that mental health doesn’t have to be something only whispered about in dark corner.
