Provincial Gold Comes in 7s

In front of a packed Westhills Stadium crowd of rugby aficionados, Brentwood’s Girls 7s rugby team defeated Abbotsford to capture Gold at the BC Provincial Championships this yesterday. Playing during a break in the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series, and immediately after Canada’s 47-0 drubbing of South Africa, the girls combined crisp ball movement, the explosive speed of Denise R, Alex ‘17 (who scored 12 tries during the two day event), and gritty defence to defeat the Fraser Valley’s perennial powerhouse 17 to 7. Over the course of the tournament, the girls posted a 6-0 record scoring 150 points while conceding only 26 and defeating Cowichan, Hansworth, Elgin Park and Cowichan again. After a well-deserved day of rest, this group will rejoin their 15s teammates in preparation for a game against longtime Cowichan Valley rival Cow High on Tuesday, April 20 at 4:00 on Gillespie Field. Cowichan finished 4th in the provincial 7s tourney. Congratulations to these girls and to their devoted coaches, Mr. Felix, Mr. Cowie & and Mr. Grisdale.
