Pumpkins and Terror: A Successful Hallowe’en

Once in a while, your birthday falls on a dreadful Monday.

Bummer.

And sometimes Midterm Break ends the day before Halloween.  

Bummer.

As our friends back home prepared for an evening of trick or treating and Hallowe’en festivities without us, the Brentwood community did not, as you might think, sit around and sulk.

No, not at all.

Brentwood did as Brentwood does, and with a little help from our friends in the SAC, Grad Council, and the BEAT we made an extravagant occasion of the creepiest of holidays.

Fairies, princesses, cats and monsters slithered across the campus as students got a chance to ditch their beloved uniform for a day. Memorable costumes included Tom W as a fairy, Sam D as a handyman and the laundry/cleaning ladies with an impressive remake of “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

As the day strolled on into art blocks, Ms. Mannion’s drawing and painting classes were in for a treat. Buckets filled to the brim with pumpkins awaited the students in anticipation of some creativity and a whole lot of fun. Amongst the carved designs grew cats, angry birds, sharks, and silly faces. The pumpkins turned out beautifully and with Ms. Mannion’s helpful dedication, they were later perfectly scattered outside the arts building to lighten a path to a much scarier activity.

The Grad Council had decided to take on the intricate task of designing a haunted house for the students and faculty of Brentwood. Led by Nick W, they succeeded at putting on a show that scared even the toughest of rugby players. Clutching at each other’s very cores, deafening screams echoed from the area as girls and boys passed through the haunted house. Students were frightened by pop-outs, creepy sounds and scary sights as they were guided through by dedicated Grad Council members.
 
The day was an infinite success. Many thanks to Ms. Martin and the grad council, Mrs. Mannion for the pumpkins and EVERYBODY who dressed up.
