Raging for Regatta!

As a new student, I was understandably confused by the concept of Regatta. So let me get this straight – hundreds of gross and smelly athletes crowd around campus, crazy raves are held at night, every junior student is turned into a prison camp labourer, the school gym turns into a refugee camp, and students gorge themselves on overpriced deep-fried grilled cheese sandwiches? And everyone actually likes this event and talks about it all year until it happens again? Yes. Apparently this is exactly what happens during Regatta every year. However, I won’t lie, I’m also excited for Regatta. My overly enthusiastic family had been following this blog for over a year before I joined the ranks of Brentonians and I vividly remember reading about last year’s Regatta. It sounded a little bit like an Alice in Wonderland experience, where the entire campus would be transformed overnight from a relatively calm and uniform environment into an insane dream realm of spandex, sweat, and fried food. Now that everyone is getting their jobs assigned, the rowers are already crying in anticipation for all the races they’ll have to complete, and every junior with a job holding boats is plotting a rebellion (good luck with that one), Regatta seems less like a dream and more like a reality. It’s a very scary and frightening reality for new students, so make it easier on us by taking a nice long shower before you jump into any mosh pits. Maybe think about giving us discounts in the Entrepreneur booths, too. That sounds about right. Everyone stay safe and have fun this weekend! Sarah P, Mackenzie ‘15
