Senior Soccer Girls’ Sweet Victory Against Shawnigan
There is no better feeling than when hard work and dedication pays off. On Tuesday our senior girls played school rivals, Shawnigan Lake School, in a tough match through the wind, rain and hail. Arriving at Shawnigan to play our first game against them this season, we unloaded the bus with minds full of determination. Dominating a lot of the early play, we kept the ball in their end a lot of the time, but at halftime the score was tied at 0-0. At the beginning of the second half the wind picked up and so did the play. With our strong midfielders keeping the ball in their end, we quickly got the first goal of the game thanks to Sarah L, Mackenzie ‘15. With a quick breakaway they were able to tie the game up, but not for long. Katlan S, Allard ‘16, putting us once again in the lead, scored our second goal. As a result of continuing to work together to move the ball up the field towards their end, Nairee P, Allard ’18 was able to find the back of the net to grant us our third goal, the goal that would eventually win us the game. Battling hard, we were able to keep the opposing team out of our end for a lot of the second half but they we able to cut through and score one more. We were still up 3-2 though and managed to keep the pressure high and ended the game with a very satisfying win. Thank you to everyone who came to support and celebrate our win with us. Mollie MG, Mackenzie ‘15
