Silver Stars for Senior A Volleyball

Passion for volleyball has been the drive for our team since the beginning of the season when we first stepped onto the court. As we embarked on our first trip to UBC we soon became a family, old and new girls melding into one. At ISAs we felt confident and battled hard to reach the finals only to come up a bit short and end with a silver medal. We continued to push ourselves in all our tournaments including the Brentwood Classic where again we reached the finals and finished with silver. With midterm break right before playoffs, a very critical point in our season, our devoted coaches arranged for us to travel to California in order to play and train. Our fitness improved thanks to our daily runs on the beach. Our technique and movement improved significantly during training sessions on the beach courts and in the gyms, as did our positive team dynamics and cohesion. The week in California helped us so much in preparation for the remainder of our season. Playoff started and we traveled to North Islands in order to win a berth at Islands. Winning every game led us to the finals where we played our tough rivals Ladysmith, who were able to win in four sets but that only inspired us to work harder. The following weekend found us in Victoria for the Island Championships where again we claimed a silver. More importantly though, we earned a spot at the Provincials. During our 7 games at the Provincials we battled and grew more than we had during any other tournament. We played our best volleyball of the season and were able to finish 9th but knew that we would have given any of the top 8 teams a great match. None of this would have been possible without our incredible parent support, Martina Edney who helped keep our team healthy, and our astonishing coaches. Mr. Minckler is always there to give us extra pointers to improve and Ms. Fougner is our mom away from home who supports and guides us in every way.
